LAUNCH OF THE COMPENSATION FOR EMPLOYERS OF RESERVISTS

CANADA S RESERVISTS MAKE AN EXTRAORDINARY COMMITMENT AND MANY PERSONAL SACRIFICES TO KEEP CANADIANS SAFE. TO DO SO THEY FACE THE UNIQUE CHALLENGE OF BALANCING THE DEMANDS OF CIVILIAN CAREERS WITH MILITARY SERVICE. RECENT HISTORY ALSO HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTION BY EMPLOYERS WHO ENABLE THEIR RESERVIST EMPLOYEES TO SERVE WHEN CALLED UPON
THE COMPENSATION FOR EMPLOYERS OF RESERVISTS PROGRAM (CERP) PROVIDES COMPENSATION TO CIVILIAN EMPLOYERS OF RESERVISTS WHO GRANT LEAVE TO THEIR RESERVIST EMPLOYEES TO DEPLOY ON DESIGNATED OPERATIONAL DUTY. THIS ALSO INCLUDES SELF-EMPLOYED RESERVISTS
THE PROGRAM, DELIVERED JOINTLY BY THE DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL DEFENCE (DND) AND EMPLOYMENT AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT CANADA (ESDC), COMPLEMENTS THE EXISTING SUITE OF EMPLOYER SUPPORT PROGRAMS CURRENTLY IN PLACE. THE PROGRAM WILL ENSURE THAT THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES MAINTAINS A SUSTAINABLE, ROBUST AND EFFECTIVE RESERVE FORCE AND THAT RESERVISTS ARE ABLE TO BALANCE THE DEMANDS OF TWO CONCURRENT CAREERS. THIS PROGRAM ANSWERS THE NEEDS OF RESERVISTS AND RECOGNIZES THE SACRIFICE OF EMPLOYERS ACROSS CANADA WHOSE SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL FOR A ROBUST AND DEPLOYABLE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES
THE CANADIAN FORCES LIAISON COUNCIL (CFLC) HAS DELIVERED RESERVE FORCE EMPLOYER SUPPORT AND ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS. THROUGH VARIOUS PROGRAMS, THE CFLC ENCOURAGES CIVILIAN EMPLOYERS AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO GRANT RESERVISTS LEAVE ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS, AND WITHOUT PENALTY, TO PARTICIPATE IN MILITARY ACTIVITIES, DUTIES AND TRAINING
GRANTS UNDER THE PROGRAM WILL PROVIDE APPROXIMATELY 425 DOLLARS PER WEEK TO CIVILIAN EMPLOYERS FOR THE DURATION OF THEIR RESERVIST EMPLOYEES DEPLOYMENT PERIOD, WHICH INCLUDES PRE DEPLOYMENT TRAINING AND ALL ASSOCIATED POST DEPLOYMENT LEAVE. ELIGIBLE EMPLOYERS WILL RECEIVE A LUMP SUM PAYMENT AT THE END OF THE DEPLOYMENT PERIOD. COMPENSATION ELIGIBILTY PERIODS ARE FROM A MINIMUM OF 30 DAYS TO A MAXIMUM OF 18 MONTHS OF A DEPLOYMENT PERIOD. EMPLOYERS MUST SUBMIT CLAIMS WITHIN TWELVE MONTHS OF THE END OF A RESERVIST S DEPLOYMENT PERIOD
TO BE ELIGIBLE, THE EMPLOYER MUST HAVE AN EMPLOYEE WHO IS A RESERVIST WHO SERVED ON A DESIGNATED CANADIAN ARMED FORCES OPERATION (INTERNATIONAL OR DOMESTIC), AND WHO HAS WORKED A WITH THEIR EMPLOYER FOR A MINIMUM OF 30 HOURS PER WEEK FOR A MINIMUM OF THREE CONSECUTIVE MONTHS, PRIOR TO THE DEPLOYMENT. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE EMPLOYER, NOT THE RESERVIST IS RESPONSIBLE TO APPLY FOR THE GRANT. RESERVISTS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ANY PORTION OF THE APPLICATION. DETAILS REGARDING THE CERP PROGRAM WILL BE INCLUDED IN ALL FUTURE CFLC EMPLOYER SUPPORT BRIEFS. DURING THE PRE DEPLOYMENT PHASE, RESERVISTS WILL BE PROVIDED INFORMATION REGARDING CERP AND OTHER EMPLOYER SUPPORT PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO THEM
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, INCLUDING FEDERAL AGENCIES AND CROWN CORPORATIONS, ALL PRIVATE AND PUBLIC EMPLOYERS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR A GRANT UNDER THE PROGRAM. WITH SOME ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS, THE PROGRAM IS ALSO OPEN TO SELF EMPLOYED RESERVISTS.
